Yucky, Awful, Horrible Day

It has a been a yucky, awful, horrible at the Maxfield home today. Today, we lost our horse Bubba. He is the one that we got late last Summer. It all started this morning when J went out to do chores. With the stupid flippin wind blowing so bad last night, he thought he better cover some shelving that he had out on one of our four-wheeler trailers which was under a car-port type shelter. As he was walking out there he noticed that the car-port thing was gone. He started looking around and noticed that it had knocked the diesel tank off its stand (it didn't have any diesel in it but it was extremely heavy), it flew over top of the horse trailer and landed on top of Bubba breaking his leg at the hock on his left back leg. He was still alive at that point but he had been trapped under it for who knows how long. He immediately called the vet. When the vet got out here he confirmed what Joe thought. After talking with the vet and realizing there was nothing that could be done, Bubba peaceful passed away. I remember when I was growing up how hard it was when we had a horse pass away, but man it sure is awful. Me and the kids eyes have been read from all the crying and bawling (yes, I am tenderhearted). It just sucks and is awful. I know it was just a freak accident.

Bubba was a good little family horse for us. He sometimes would be stubborn, but normally if I got on him and got after him a little, he would behave and be really good. M had pretty much put her "claim on him". But C might have had Bubba's heart. He would go out and feed him and help take care of him. He loved his Bubba. I think that is the hardest part is seeing and knowing how much we all loved him. C has been walking around the house saying, "Bubba, Bubba?" I even found him in his room playing with his little Breyer horse that looked like Bubba. J had even gotten really fond of him and every chance he could he would go for a ride. J had a ball going deer hunting on him last fall up in Wyoming. And I know that he was so looking forward to going again. Bubba was teaching him a lot and J was learning a ton too. I know will can get another horse eventually and it will be all okay, but it sucks this very minute. But it will be okay.
