Bucket Calves and the Horses

Bucket Calves
O and M got Bucket Calves. O is really the only one old enough to show it at the fair but we figured two was probably better than one. So we got M a calf too! Unfortunately M's calf ended up getting really sick and died. (And of course I waited to take a picture and now we have not picture of him and her.) We will have to get her another one when we get back from Montana. Here is a picture of O with her calf that is really starting to chunk up! He is getting to be a little chubby calf!

Horses
Since we lost Bubba, we have been looking for a replacement. Bubba wasn't the world's best horse, but he was good for our little family and was good for J. Since then we bought a couple horses in the last week. We picked up Chip (the sorrel gelding) after a horse sale and we got Roanie (the blue roan mare) the next day from a gal in Pocatello. Chip is a 7-year old gelding. I actually ended up knowing the people we picked him up from. He is really level headed and he loves to be loved. He has been a great horse so far. I took him up on the mountain and he was a little startley but with some work I think we can get him over it. He is pretty tall and given I don't got the body proportions that I use to have...it is a loooong ways up there to get on. The more I ride him the more I really really like him. Roanie is 14-years old. She is quite the little mare. She is really short. O really didn't enjoy riding much until we got her and now we cannot get her off of Roanie! I think we made some good purchases and that these horses are going to be great for our family!

Grandma Great Maxfield's 95th Birthday

I am so grateful we have this wonderful lady in our lives. Grandma Great Maxfield turned 95 years old on May 11th. Evan's family had a dinner at Maddox to celebrate this special day. She is a wonderful example to our family and we love her so much! Our girls adore their little Grandma Great!!!

Happy Birthday Baby Bug!

Today our sweet little baby bug McCall turned six! Holy cow where did the time go? McCall has always been my little baby bug! I cannot believe that she is six now!

Here are some things that we adore about her right now:
-She gives the absolute bestest loves in the world! She gives great big bear hugs and kisses.
-She LOVES to sing to the radio and she can belt them out. We love it!
-The girl can boogie with the best of them. I am actually a little a feared of her first school dance. Them kids won't know what's comin'!
-She loves her sister and brother. She loves to play with Cash and she makes his day. When we see a school bus, Cash automatically says "Call, Call" in hopes that she will be getting off the bus to play with him.
-She says that we are "BESTEST BUDDIES". I hope it stays that way forever!
-She is truley my little cowgirl. She loves her animals so much. (Unfortunately they keep dying on us...her kitty, her horse and this last week her calf.)
-She prays for the Lamanites (and sometimes the Nephites) in her prayers every night...sometimes she forgets and asks, "Now who were the bad guys in tonight?" (Looks like them scripture stories are paying off.)
-She is very competitive and puts her whole heart into what she is doing. She gives 200% everytime.
-She is getting to be such a good little reader and she absolutely adores Kindergarten!
-She can be a little mischevious! Ask her bus driver....
-She is going to be in the Major League Soccer someday! She ROCKS! We love love love to watch her play.
-She will secretly do things for her sister like picking up the room or making her bed. She does it because she likes to see her smile and be happy! (Mommy sure smiles about that too!)
-She has learned to climb our tree and thinks she wants to live up there with the monkeys!

We sure adore our little princess!

Yucky, Awful, Horrible Day

It has a been a yucky, awful, horrible at the Maxfield home today. Today, we lost our horse Bubba. He is the one that we got late last Summer. It all started this morning when J went out to do chores. With the stupid flippin wind blowing so bad last night, he thought he better cover some shelving that he had out on one of our four-wheeler trailers which was under a car-port type shelter. As he was walking out there he noticed that the car-port thing was gone. He started looking around and noticed that it had knocked the diesel tank off its stand (it didn't have any diesel in it but it was extremely heavy), it flew over top of the horse trailer and landed on top of Bubba breaking his leg at the hock on his left back leg. He was still alive at that point but he had been trapped under it for who knows how long. He immediately called the vet. When the vet got out here he confirmed what Joe thought. After talking with the vet and realizing there was nothing that could be done, Bubba peaceful passed away. I remember when I was growing up how hard it was when we had a horse pass away, but man it sure is awful. Me and the kids eyes have been read from all the crying and bawling (yes, I am tenderhearted). It just sucks and is awful. I know it was just a freak accident.

Bubba was a good little family horse for us. He sometimes would be stubborn, but normally if I got on him and got after him a little, he would behave and be really good. M had pretty much put her "claim on him". But C might have had Bubba's heart. He would go out and feed him and help take care of him. He loved his Bubba. I think that is the hardest part is seeing and knowing how much we all loved him. C has been walking around the house saying, "Bubba, Bubba?" I even found him in his room playing with his little Breyer horse that looked like Bubba. J had even gotten really fond of him and every chance he could he would go for a ride. J had a ball going deer hunting on him last fall up in Wyoming. And I know that he was so looking forward to going again. Bubba was teaching him a lot and J was learning a ton too. I know will can get another horse eventually and it will be all okay, but it sucks this very minute. But it will be okay.
